A day after President Xi Jinping called on Chinese troops to prepare for war, the United States appointed a senior official as its special coordinator for Tibetan issues,Robert Destro is the new American appointment to specifically oversee the human rights violations in Tibet by China
US Secretary Pompeo said about the appointment that
Destro will lead US efforts to promote dialogue between the People’s Republic of China and the Dalai Lama or his representatives; protect the unique religious, cultural, and linguistic identity of Tibetans; and press for their human rights to be respected,
He added that the US remains concerned with the PRC’s “repression of the Tibetan community,The Trump administration in the past has threatened to restrict visas for the Chinese officials responsible for human rights abuses in Tibet and blocking diplomatic access to the region
A day before the US announced special coordinator for Tibet, Xi while visiting the People’s Liberation Army Marine Corps in Chaozhou city,asked the troops to "put all their minds and energy on preparing for war" and "maintain a state of high alert
This military visit came amid heightened tensions between China and US, with issues pertaining to disagreements over Taiwan and the COVID-19 pandemic
The statement assumes significance in view of the India-China tense face-off along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh since May this year and the US pushback against China's aggressive stand on South China Sea. China has been facing stiff resistance from India, the US and several other nations over its expansionist policies
Also the white house,had earlier notified US Congress on Monday that it was planning to move ahead with the sale of three advanced weapon systems to Taiwan, including the advanced High Mobility Artillery Rocket System
In response, China's Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian had called on Washington to "immediately cancel any arms sales plans to Taiwan" and cut all "US-Taiwan military ties.
Even though Taiwan has never been controlled by China's ruling party, Chinese authorities insist that the self-governing island is an integral part of their territory
However, relations between US and Taiwan have grown closer under the administration of US President Donald Trump, despite China's disapproval
however,The US government's appointment of a special coordinator for Tibetan issues,send a strong message to China ,, It might escalate the crisis between the two countries which are already warring over the terms of their bilateral trade, China's curbing of freedoms in Hong Kong, threats against democratic island of Taiwan, abuse of human rights of Uighurs in Xinjiang and mishandling of the coronavirus pandemic.
The US ,also urged in the General Assembly that everyone, including the UN Human Rights Chief, should be allowed access, to the concerned region ,and entire China. so that the Chinese violation of human rights, becomes evident ,, After taking such vital, and firm stands against Beijing, Washington is appealing the world to support such global cause,
