India's Afghan Policy A Tricky Affair

India had joined the world community in expressing its support for democratically elected governments. Following the US military departure from Afghanistan, New Delhi was confronted with unforeseen obstacles as the US pullout was followed almost immediately by an unprecedentedly quick Taliban control of the nation.
It was obvious that continuous difficulties from a Taliban government committed to promoting radical Islamic objectives from beyond India's borders would not be in India's best interests. With Pakistan and China working hard to support the Taliban, practically all of Afghanistan's western neighbours, including India, are concerned about the Taliban's return to power. The Taliban's predilection for supporting and sheltering radical Islamic groups such as the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan and Al Qaeda in Uzbekistan, as well as the Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed in Pakistan, is the source of these suspicions.
The massive store of arms and ammunition that the US left behind in Afghanistan has already made its way to Kashmir in India, where Pakistani militants are seen employing such weapons.
