Taxes 'have to go up’ to meet Labor’s net-zero ambitions: James Ashby
One Nation Chief of Staff James Ashby says the Labor government has committed around $1.5 trillion to fast-track its renewable energy pledge.
Mr Ashby’s comments come after Treasurer Jim Chalmers warned Australia wouldn’t be able to meet its net-zero emissions target without more robust interventions from the government and private sector investment.
“That’s the prediction of money that needs to be projected,” Mr Ashby told Sky News contributor Steve Price.
“We’re approaching $1 trillion worth of debt as a country right now.
“Think about two and half times that debt, you’re paying for it, I’m paying for it and that means your taxes have got to go up.
“If we’re going to put this on steroids … look out, pay for it in the long run, or we’re going to go through some massive blackouts.”
