White Wine in the Sun by Tim Minchin (Cover)

A favorite Christmas song, and the song that makes me cry more than all others combined… but you have to hang in there ’til the second half for the really brilliant lyrics. Singing it nearly always gets me, and this time I was able to hold it together until at least pretty close to the end. The song hit me harder when I recorded this, as my 24-year-old "sweet blue-eyed girl” was living in Korea, and so it was the first year that we are not able to spend Thanksgiving and Christmas together.

As one of five children, our Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers can number around 25 people. We are the odd family that really loves one another with no conflicts. It is perhaps worth mentioning that, while Tim Minchin’s lyrics are surprisingly autobiographical for me, my parents never drink and don’t live in Australia.

I… really like… Tim Minchin. I could go on and on about how brilliant he is. He is my favorite lyricist and wrote the songs to two of my favorite musicals. (I saw Groundhog Day three times and saw Matilda in London with my wife & Megan.) You can currently find two of his concerts on Netflix and will soon be able to see the Matilda movie there too. At the end, you will see the selfie Tim took with Megan and me when we met in New York. He is as generous, charming and kind as he is brilliant and talented.
