Did you know that Maurice Gibb's death is thought to have been entirely preventable but that the musician's widow kept his brothers from suing the hospital where he had passed? Prior to his passing in early 2003 as a result of cardiac arrest, Maurice Gibb was one of the three founding members of the beloved pop music group the Bee Gees. The other two members of the band were Maurice’s real-life brothers, named Robin and Barry. Not only were Maurice and Robin brothers, but they were also fraternal twins.

With Maurice’s tragic 2003 death, he became the first of the Bee Gees to pass away. Now, Barry is the only surviving member of the group. Maurice’s death came as a surprise, and most think that his passing could’ve been easily prevented. He was admitted into the hospital with stomach pains a few days prior to his passing. At the time of his death, he was recovering from intestinal surgery.

Maurice’s brothers wanted to sue the hospital, but the musician’s widow talked them out of doing so. Maurice’s widow is Yvonne Gibb. In addition to Yvonne, two adult children also survived Maurice. In 2012, Robin Gibb became the second member of the Bee Gees to pass away. The Bee Gees also had a younger brother, named Andy Gibb, who had a solo career during the 1980s. This brother sadly passed away in 1988, at the age of only 30.
