Japan National Anthem | Kimigayo

The National Anthem of Japan

State of Japan
Ruled by : Emperor Akihito
Capital : Tokyo
Japan (Japanese: 日本 Nippon [ɲip̚poɴ] or Nihon [ɲihoɴ]; formally 日本国 About this sound Nippon-koku or Nihon-koku, meaning "State of Japan") is a sovereign island nation in East Asia. Located in the Pacific Ocean, it lies off the eastern coast of the Asian mainland, and stretches from the Sea of Okhotsk in the north to the East China Sea and Taiwan in the southwest.

"Kimigayo" (君が代, [kʲimiꜜɡajo]; His Imperial Majesty's Reign) is the national anthem of Japan. Its lyrics are the oldest among the world's national anthems, and with a length of 11 measures and 32 characters "Kimigayo" is also one of the world's shortest. Its lyrics are from a waka poem written in the Heian period (794–1185), and the current melody was chosen in 1880, replacing an unpopular melody composed eleven years earlier. While the title "Kimigayo" is usually translated as "His Imperial Majesty's Reign", no official translation of the title or lyrics has been established in law.

Lyrics in Japanese :
君が代は
千代に八千代に
さざれ(細)石の
いわお(巌)となりて
こけ(苔)の生すまで

Lyrics in Japanese (Romanized) :
Kimigayo wa
Chiyo ni yachiyo ni
Sazare-ishi no
Iwao to narite
Koke no musu made

Lyrics in English :
May your reign
Continue for a thousand, eight thousand generations,
Until the pebbles
Grow into boulders
Whose venerable sides the moss doth line.
