Катюша. Katyusha [Soviet Patriotic Song]

The Soviet Union played a decisive role in World War II, particularly on the Eastern Front, where it bore the brunt of the fighting against Nazi Germany. After the German invasion in 1941, known as Operation Barbarossa, the Soviet Union mobilized vast resources and manpower. Major battles such as Battle of Stalingrad and Battle of Kursk became turning points, eventually leading to the Soviet advance into Eastern Europe and the capture of Berlin in 1945. Despite enormous losses, the Soviet Union emerged as one of the victorious Allied powers and a global superpower.

The song Katyusha, composed in 1938, became one of the most iconic Soviet songs during the war. It tells the story of a young woman longing for her beloved soldier, symbolizing hope, love, and patriotism. Widely sung by both civilians and soldiers, the song later gave its name to the Soviet rocket launchers, further strengthening its symbolic connection to the war.
