Egypt’s New Administrative Capital

Egypt is building a “New Administrative Capital” in the desert. The project, which covers 700 square kilometers of desert 45 kilometers east of Cairo, will have residential, business and administrative districts, featuring a green river park, the tallest skyscraper in Africa, an airport, super mall and much more, with a population of 6.5 million people, the same as Madrid, Spain. It’s hoped the project will attract tourism and economic activity, but it’s feared nobody will move to the city, Cairo will be neglected and it will waste Egypt’s scarce water resources. Construction began in 2015 and is well underway.
