Take A Chance #6 - Michael Mayer and Darryl Jooste (1974)

During the 1970s, Michael Mayer and Darryl Jooste created and starred in a series of subversive, madcap South African comedy radio shows entitled, "Take A Chance" and "Take Another Chance".

The spontaneous shows by the legendary duo were broadcast on Thursday evenings with a repeat on Saturday mornings and featured hilarious characters including Wouter Marais, Gert Ockert, Miems Meiring, Charles Teller, Colin Jubilee, Philemon and The Manager.

The original master tapes were unfortunately not kept but some shows still survive from a few home recordings.

I recorded various shows during 1973/1974 and have begun the process of converting from my cassette tape collection to digital format.

Featured here is the sixth "Take a Chance" recording : a collection of highlights from 8 consecutive shows recorded in 1974.
