Chechnya - Khamzatov & Fighters In Argun

Chechen gunmen squared off against Russian troops in the Chechen town of Argun on Monday (21/8), after the rebels stormed a police station in defiance of Kremlin authority. The arrival of around 200 Chechen fighters led by Alaudi Khamzatov, late Sunday (20/8) threatens the fragile peace process in Chechnya. The group is armed with grenade launchers, a flame thrower and firearms. Russian tanks and armoured personnel carriers have surrounded the area.
