Chechnya - Fighting Situation In Argun

The Russian military, firmly in control of Grozny on Wednesday
(8/2), stepped up the aerial and artillery bombardment of Argun,
to the east of the capital. Chechen authorities claimed many
civilians had been killed or wounded during attacks on the town
and neighbouring villages. Speaking in Argun, Chechen information
officer Mavladi Udugov said the decision to abandon the military
headquarters in Grozny did not mean surrender.
