[Longplay, No Commentary] MechCommander 2 (PC, 2001) Full Play-through

MechCommander 2 is a real-time tactics game released in 2001 for Windows as a direct sequel to MechCommander. This time you assume the role of the commander of an unnamed mercenary company who fights for the various Great Houses involved in this story.

Compared to MechCommander, the game-play is way too simplified and dumbed down. Mechs can easily be salvaged in- or after mission provided reactor core is intact, or purchased outright at certain points of the campaign. Better weapons are available in unlimited numbers after capturing weapon factories in campaign missions. As a consequence, there is not much of a motivation to play more cautiously in order to salvage that juicy Clan tech like you would in MechCommander.

Also, the AI is poorly programmed for they take "focus firing" way too literally, which is a weakness that can easily be abused. Higher difficulty settings don't fix AI behaviour, but merely adds artificial difficulty in the form of terrible accuracy for player-controlled units.

With these points said, this game is a bit of a letdown when compared to its predecessor. Though, it does have its moments, I like the make-up of House Liao's Mandrissa Cho.
