Developing Debt: What is the Evergrande Default?

The property sector in China has been under a government-imposed, forced deleveraging that has gripped global markets over the past year. In recent weeks, defaults from several indebted property developers have hit one by one - the most material and symbolic of which is “Levergrande” (3333.HK China Evergrande Group), the world’s most indebted property developer with over $300 billion in liabilities. They failed to make interest payments on two USD bonds, and thus has finally been declared as in default.
