We use the Present Perfect to talk about things we did (or didn't do) in our lives up to the time of speaking, but we don't mention a definite time. For example, "I've been to Rome", "I've never been to Beijing", "I haven't seen you since we were at school together" or "Have you ever eaten sushi?" These sentences only focus on activities that happened at some time in your life...the actual time they happened isn't an important factor. When the actual time IS important, we would use the Past Simple ("I went to Rome last year"). We make the Present Perfect tense with the verb 'to have' + the 3rd form (past participle) of the following verb.
