2020 Kia Sorento SX - Smart Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, and Blind-Spot Monitoring

Smart Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist and Blind-Spot Monitoring are all features included in Kia's DRIVE WISE driver assistive safety technology package and are being demonstrated on the 2020 Kia Sorento SX. https://www.smailkia.com/new-vehicles/sorento/ Smart Cruise Control Smart Cruise Control (SCC) is a convenience and safety system that automatically accelerates and decelerates the vehicle to maintain the driver's preset speed while also keeping a safe distance from the vehicle directly in front of it. SCC uses the front view camera to compute the relative position and speed of the vehicle directly ahead, and uses that information to keep a safe distance between the two vehicles. The system controls the acceleration and deceleration to make sure the vehicle stops when the vehicle ahead stops, and when that vehicle starts moving, the system will automatically start moving the vehicle again without need of any action from the driver. Lane Keeping Assist Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) is a safety system that helps prevent accidents by warning the driver and controlling the steering wheel if it detects that the vehicle is drifting out of its current lane. LKA uses a front view camera to detect the edges of the current lane. The system will only alert the driver if it detects that the lane departure is unintentional, for example, if the turn signals are on, the system will not activate. If the system detects that the lane departure is unintentional, it will warn the driver with visual and audible alarms while also steering the vehicle back into the intended lane. Blind-Spot Monitoring Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance (BCA) is a safety system that helps prevent the vehicle from colliding into other vehicles in the adjacent lane or coming from behind the driver. If the system detects a vehicle in the adjacent lane, it will warn the driver so that they know it is not safe to switch lanes. BCA uses the front camera and rear corner radars to detect the relative position and speed of other vehicles on either side of the vehicle. If there is a vehicle detected in the blind-spot, the system will illuminate a light on the side view mirror to let the driver know there is another vehicle there. If the driver activates the turn signal when a vehicle is detected in the blind spot, the light will flash and the system will beep to alert the driver that it is not safe to merge.
