Biomolecules:- Chemical compound which are present in living organisms that are essential to one or more biological process like cell division ,morphogenesis etc There are four major classes of Biomolecules –  Carbohydrates, Proteins, Nucleic acids and Vitamins. Carbohydrates Carbohydrates are chemically defined as optically active polyhydroxy aldehydes or ketones or compounds which produce such compounds on hydrolysis. Carbohydrates as sugars or substances that taste sweet. They are collectively known as saccharides (Greek: sakcharon = sugar). Depending on the number of sugar units obtained upon hydrolysis, they are classified as :- 1. Monosaccharides (1 unit) - which can't further hydrolyse into simpler compounds. eg:- Glucose, Fructose etc 2. Oligosaccharides (2-10 units) Substances which give 2-10 units of monosaccharides eg:- Sucrose, Maltose, Lactose, Raffinose, Stachyose, and Verbascose. 3.
