1B22 Radioactive Radium Vacuum Tube
Here I whipped up a quick video showing my DRSB-01 Russian Geiger Clicker and my Universal Atomics CDV-700 Model 4 Geiger Counter reading levels from my new 1B22 Radium Vacuum Tube.
This tube is an old spark gap tube from radar assemblies used in the military. There is between 2 and 4 uCi (microcurie) of Radium sealed in the tube.
Measured on a PC based scaler (not shown) the tube reads: ~4300CPM Gamma, and ~11,000CPM Beta/Gamma at one centimeter from the radium source.
What I like best about this tube is that it is a SEALED Radium source - NO contamination worries! It also has plentiful Gamma emissions, nearly 40% of the radiation is gamma! The Radium decay chain is all Alpha and Beta emitters, so all this gamma is coming from Beta's Bremsstrahlung and Alpha's Excited Daughter X-Rays.
There is 60% more Gamma radiation being produced from this tube than the Pitchblende ore sample I have that is FOUR TIMES as radioactive (in terms of total detected CPM for Beta and Gamma).
This fascinating and attractive sample was purchased from SurplusSales.com for only $10. Great service from them as well, a pleasure to deal with.
