Emilia Dobreva, crowned Miss Universe UAE in October 2024, faced a bittersweet journey as she left her three young children to fulfill a lifelong dream of representing the UAE at the Miss Universe pageant in Mexico. Originally from Kosovo but raised in the UAE, Emilia, a ballet teacher and mother of three, balanced her rigorous pageant schedule with late-night video calls to her family in Dubai. Her dream of participating in Miss Universe began in 2003 when she competed in Little Miss Universe at age six. Despite a setback in 2021 when the UAE withdrew its representation, Emilia persisted. The pageant’s removal of restrictions on marital status and age in 2023 allowed her to participate after having twins. She won the UAE title in a private audition and spent three weeks in Mexico preparing for global stage. Emilia cherished the friendships she made with contestants like Miss Somalia, Miss USA, and her roommate, Miss Suriname, while proudly showcasing UAE culture in her abaya during the competition. She credited her family’s support for her success and urged women never to give up on their dreams. Her journey reflects resilience, cultural pride, and the transformative power of perseverance.
