London Sketches (Premiere)

Hayden Franke, Oboe Reneae Dishman, Clarinet Brandon Trent, Alto Saxophone Chris Montoya, Bass Clarinet Graydon Howard, Bassoon This piece was officially premiered at my senior recital on 2/9/22 at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University London Sketches was written in a week during my first visit to London in late December 2019 to early January 2020. Reed quintets are one of my favorite ensembles, so it was an immediate choice to compose another one. The performers on this piece are long-time collaborators and friends, so London Sketches has been an absolute blast to get to work with these folks for my biggest concert yet. There are six sections and then an ending, all of which showcase different locations I visited during my trip. My goal with this piece is to depict a tour of London and its surrounding areas, such as "The Metro," "Tower Bridge," "St. Paul's Cathedral," "Leed's Castle," "Westminster Abbey," and "Tower of London." Each of these places has their own character and I wanted to portray them in this piece. The different sections also feature different instruments, either as soloists or as smaller groups.
