Virtual International Coffee Hour (featuring Bistec Picado from Panama)

This week, CGE’s Chef Jesse will be joined by Itzamara Cigarruista, FSU junior studying international affairs. Virtual International Coffee Hour is held each Friday from 5–6:30 p.m. when classes are in session on Zoom and serves as an opportunity to connect with FSU students, faculty, and staff from around the world. During Coffee Hour, you have the opportunity to learn how to make unique snacks from around the world while learning about another culture. Following the cooking demonstration, we move into Zoom rooms to connect in conversation in smaller groups. Bistec Picado Recipe: Serves 4 Ingredients: 1 pound blade steak, cut into thin strips 2 tablespoons olive oil ½ tablespoon vinegar ½ teaspoon salt ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper 1 teaspoon garlic powder 2 tablespoon soy sauce 1 tablespoon Worchester sauce 3 cloves garlic, crushed ¾ cup celery, sliced 1 bell pepper, sliced 1 yellow onion, sliced 1# tomato, diced 1 can tomato sauce Method: Marinate beef in oil, vinegar, salt, pepper, garlic, powder, soy sauce, Worchester sauce. Heat a 12 inch skillet on medium high heat. Add beef and stir fry with garlic for a couple minutes stirring constantly. Once cooked remove from pan to a dish and set aside. Keep the heat on medium high and add celery, bell pepper and onion. Continue stir frying on medium high heat stirring constantly. After cooking for a few minutes add the tomatoes and continue to cook for a couple minutes. Add tomato sauce, stir and reduce heat to medium low. Cook for a few more minutes, serve with patacones for breakfast.
