As far as I know, there are three 'kinds' of suede... byproducts, gotten from a leather hide. To understand this, we should know first, that a leather hide is usually split in two layers: a 'top layer' and a 'lower layer/s'. The 'top layer' is the 'good one' ...it is stronger than the lower layer and used to get leather to upholster cars and furniture. The 'lower layer' or 'flesh side' is used to get the 'common suede'...this suede has a coarse nap...tanners can also make leather from this part, but of inferior quality with no much resistance. What is 'nubuck'? ...it is a 'fine suede' gotten from the 'top layer' of a leather hide...the process consists in the buffing(fine sanding or polish) of the surface creating a very fine fuzz...this material is very expensive and delicate. What is 'ante' or 'reverse suede'? ...it is also gotten from the 'top layer', the difference is that was smoothly sanded on the 'reverse side' of leather...this material is more durable and resistant to moisture and dirt... it looks like 'nubuck'! ...this is the material we are using to upholster the VW Super beetle glove box. I hope you find this video useful! Cesar
