The Bulava missile, which weighs 36.8 tonnes and was launched as part of a test by Russian's in the Arctic, according to the state's news agency. It was sent up from the Borey-class Yuri Dolgoruky nuclear-powered submarine in the Barents Sea towards the Kura testing range on Russia's Kamchatka peninsula. It can travel 8,000 kilometres (about 5,000 miles) and hold between six and 10 nuclear warheads.The last launch was in September last year, where two rounds of missiles were launched and only one completed the cycle. The second round self-detonated before hitting the target.The Russian Defence Ministry said: The launch was carried out from an underwater position in accordance with the combat readiness plan. The launch hit the designated targets on the course.
