Dragon Spirit - Paleozoic Era

First level theme for the 80s Namco top down arcade shooter, Dragon Spirit; music by Shinji Hosoe, also known as MEGATEN. He also composed the music other early Namco titles, but today is a frequent contributor to music games such as Beatmania and Pop'n Music, and to the Ridge Racer franchise (also Namco). Several fighting games such as the Street Fighter EX and Bushido Blade series have had their music composed by him. Lastly and perhaps most importantly, he also composed the music for Dragon Spirit's sequel, Dragon Saber. A very well rounded composer overall. Dragon Spirit itself is alot like Xevious (Namco's earliest shmup I beleive) in that you can drop bombs on the ground as well as being able to shoot in the air, excepting of course that the ship is a dragon who shoots fire. Its rather large for a top down shooter, but you can take several hits, and can even gain extra heads for more fire power. The first stage where this track is from is, as you might expect from the name, dinosaur themed. The game was ported to every system in existance at the time, most notably the NES and the TG16. The former has an interesting take on this theme, and the latter's version is actually pretty close. The X68000 version of both the game and the soundtrack are nearly arcade perfect. --- Add &fmt=18 at the end of the video's URL for high quality.
