Smart Orchard Overview

Microsoft partner innov8.ag created a smart orchard in partnership with Washington State University and the Tree Fruit Research Commission to bring together IoT sensors, drones, satellites, farm equipment, and grower data - with the goal to provider apple orchard growers with a consolidated view. With this data, we "empower growers with data" and enable insights and timely, effective decisions that impact growers' bottom line. We heavily leverage Microsoft Farmbeats to enable agriculture data collection via API into our Azure datawarehouse, and open the door for deeper collaboration with university researchers to use Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning tools for breakthrough data models & insights. Subscribe to our newsletter at www.innov8.ag for deets on upcoming webinars with deep dives on different categories of data! Agriculture IoT sensors include: - Environmental: micro-climate weather (above & in-canopy) from Davis Instruments, Meter Group, and Tuctronics; PAR, spectral reflectance, & quantum - Soil: AquaSpy soil moisture sensors, Sentek soil moisture sensors, Teralytic soil nutrient probes - Water: Tuctronics pressure switches & sensors - Tree: Oregon State University sap flow sensors, dendrometers, leaf wetness To complement the sensors, we're also collecting data from: - Smart Guided Systems sprayer, with lidar data that maps tree canopy height, width, & volume, complemented by chemical application mapping - DJI & Agbot drones - including RGB, multi-spectral, and thermal imagery mapped to centimeter accuracy - Satellite imagery - Labor, chemical, & yield/pack-out reporting From a connectivity perspective, we're using a combination of LTE, CAT-M1, LoRaWAN, & Bluetooth. Private LTE is on the roadmap.
