Drimiopsis maculata Is a shade loving, low growing plant that has oval shaped, spotted Leopard like leaves and produces little spikes with pretty greenish-white flowers atop. It has a bulbous root system that typically goes dormant when conditions do not suit growing. But in springtime it grows new leaves which are thick, almost succulent in style and feature dark green to brownish spots - hence the species name 'maculata'. Can be grown in pots indoors, especially in lower light settings. Soil A moist but well drained soil is best, though they will tolerate dryer soils as well. This is a useful ground-covering plant as they like the deep shade under trees, though a little direct sun won't harm them. Maintenance: Remove dead leaves - otherwise it is very self-sufficient. Do not overwater them - even letting them dry out between waterings.
