Inner core's effect on surface inhabitants
The study suggests that the Earth's inner core, which is made of iron and nickel and has a diameter of 1220 kilometers, has stopped returning internal benefits and may be redirecting in the opposite direction. The research was conducted by Xiaodong Song and Yi Yang from Beijing University, who analyzed the seismic waves from earthquakes in the last sixty years. The inner core is close to impossible to investigate, so most research on the inner core has been the subject of debate in the scientific community. Earth's magnetic field, produced by the rotating iron current in the outer core, pulls the inner core towards itself, causing the core to rotate. However, the huge pressure exerted by the mantle and the earth's crust on the core makes the inner core solid, while the outer core surrounding the inner core is less pressured, which makes it 2,260 kilometers thick and in a liquid state. The difficulty of investigating the inner core and the lack of available evidence have made scientists wary of the findings. For now, the researchers reported that the rotation in question is in line with small changes in the time it takes for the earth to rotate around its axis, so it will not cause scary earthquakes, huge tsunamis, or volcanic eruptions all over the world. Most modeling on this subject has not been able to fully explain what is happening in the inner core, but the study authors hope their study will encourage some researchers to build and test models that treat the entire Earth as an integrated dynamical system.
