Niwaki, Texas style. Niwaki just means "Garden Tree". I show you a way to use old growth Ashe Juniper, rather than killing it, and show how to prune it in such a way, that you can still grow crops in the lower layers, and still speed up forest succession. Keeping it alive, allows you to use it as a mulch mine, living trellis, creates shade from the overbearing Texas sun, and leaves habitat for wildlife. Old growth Ashe Juniper is incredibly important to the Cross Timbers ecosystem. This is an old female Ashe juniper that grows in the backyard garden bed.
