Ghost Pipes - A Parasitic Plant that Steals from the Fungal Network

Indian Pipes, or Ghost Pipes (Monotropa uniflora) is a non-photosynthetic, parasitic plant that steals energy from neighboring plants via the fungal network. It lacks chlorophyll and is white in color. It is pollinated most commonly by bumblebees. It’s native range includes much of the eastern US and in the Pacific Northwest. Other similar plants, called mycoheterotrophs, can be found throughout the world.
