Drivers in Spokane Valley to pay $20 extra for tab renewal starting June 2024

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — It will soon cost drivers in Spokane Valley an extra $20 to renew their tabs. The ordinance narrowly passed 3-2 during Wednesday night's City Council meeting. The new fee will collect more than $2.7 million. That money will fund the Pavement Management Program. "We have people who drive out [on the] roads that don't live here that aren't paying those fees," Councilmember Brandi Peetz said. "The economy we have right now 20 dollars means a lot to a household." While a majority of the council members don't like the idea of drivers paying more, they say it's necessary. "I don't like the license tabs either, but you know what, [it's] $20 to have good roads, so I don't have to spend $150 on alignment every year," Councilmember Arne Woodard said. "When are we going to take care of our roads so we don't end up like Spokane?" The new fees will be collected starting in June. ►Subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/4NewsNow ►Website: http://www.kxly.com ►Twitter: https://twitter.com/kxly4news ►Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/KXLY4News
