Threats to Giant Clams (Tridacna)

Giant clams are some of the world;s largest, and most beautiful, bivalves. These unique animals have a symbiosis with a unicellular algae that lives inside their skin. With the algal symbiosis, the clams are supercharged to build extra large shells, contributing to reef structure. Although they have been around for about 9 million years, today they are under threat. In this short clip from a longer lecture we will go through the local and global threats to Giants calms, and the family Tridacna.
