BIA's Phrasal Verb - Work out
Welcome to BIA's phrasal verb series! The phrasal verb is "work out", and, as you're going to see, it can be used in several very different contexts.
First definition: Something to go successfully. Ex) "The new system we placed in our work worked out better than we expected."
Second definition: Something did not work out - The end result was bad. Ex) "My friend, John, moving in with his brother, the situation hasn't worked out well. They are constantly fighting about who should be cleaning."
Third definition: When you work out a problem, puzzle, or calculation, it means you have solved it. Ex) "I had to work out how much the home repairs are going to cost me."
Fourth definition: Work things out with someone - Fix the issues in relationships, maybe by resolving a disagreement. Ex) "I wasn't talking to my best friend for two months. But eventually, we came together and worked things out. Now, we are friends again."
Fifth definition: Work out can mean to exercise. People work out in order to strengthen their muscles or get in better shape. Ex) "In America, it's very common for people to go to a gym or a park several times a week to work out."
