The Medicinal Biochemistry of the Chrysanthemum 菊花

This lecture was done for the Lan Su Garden in Portland, OR. The Medicinal Biochemistry of Chrysanthemum 菊花 from a Classical Chinese Medical Perspective This lecture introduces the major, known biochemically active constituents of Chinese chrysanthemum 菊花 juhua and contextualizes them within the framework of classical Chinese medical thought as well as warmth disease 温病 wenbing theory. The nutritional, medicinal, and anti-pathogenic effects of various constituents are examined. This lecture reintroduces a number of the concepts previously discussed in lectures 1 and 2 in relation to the bioactive compounds found in chrysanthemum flower.
