The libretto was written by Eugène Cormon and Michel Carré. Generally known as "The Pearl Fishers' Duet", it is one of the most popular numbers in Western opera – it appeared on seven of the Classic 100 Countdowns conducted by ABC Classic FM. It is sung by Nadir (tenor) and Zurga (baritone) in act 1. ____________ Dr. Jack Delmore bio: Prior to earning professor emeritus status from Colorado Mesa University in 2017, Dr. Jack Delmore was their music department's longstanding Director of Voice and Vocal Performance. With an extensive background in all areas of vocal performance, he holds an undergraduate degree from the University of MA-Lowell, a master's degree from New England Conservatory, and a doctorate from the University of Arizona, Tucson. Delmore performed such diverse chamber works as Britten's Canticles and Winter Words, Schumann's Dichterliebe, Faure's La Bonne Chanson, and Poulenc's Telle Jour Telle Nuit. He has also studied and performed the Russian repertoire of The Mighty Five, as well as early 20th century American art songs. As Professor of Music at CMU (then Mesa State College), Dr. Delmore directed many musicals, operettas, and operas, including The Pirates of Penzance, My Fair Lady, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, She Loves Me, Guys & Dolls, The Mikado, Jesus Christ Superstar, Iolanthe, and No, No, Nanette. He also produced the first one-act operas performed at CMU in full production, Dido and Aeneas, and directed Amahl and the Night Visitors, A Hand of Bridge, The Telephone, Noye’s Fludde and Mozart's The Magic Flute. Delmore performed numerous works with the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra and Western Colorado Chorale - e.g., Verdi's Requiem, Orff's Carmina Burana, Haydn's Creation, Bach's B Minor Mass, and the tenor solo in Beethoven's 9th Symphony. Delmore and Houle were colleagues at CMU for 11 years (2006-2017) and both earned undergraduate and master's degrees from the same schools. In the 1970s, they were also both members of Kaleidoscope, a group of vocalists (with Houle as accompanist) who performed while employed as waiters and waitresses in the New England area.
