In this week's stream we take a comparative philosophical journey into Hare Krishna and Islam, with Dr Howard Resnick and Jake Brancatella. The Hare krishna movement, registered as the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), was exported to the West during the 1960s and 1970s. The Hare Krishna movement is a branch of what is traditionally known as Gaudiya or Chaitanya Vaishnavism, a movement inaugurated by the Chaitanya Mahaprabhu (1486–1533 c.e.), Gauda, East India. Philosophically, Gaudiya Vaishnavism is a monotheistic tradition that has its roots in the theistic schools of Vedanta stemming from the great Vaishnava theologians Madhva in the 13th century and Ramanuja in the 12th, which in turn have their roots in the Upanishads, the earliest philosophical texts of India. Dr Howard Resnick, also known as H.D. Goswami is a scholar and senior spiritual leader of ISKON. Following, his undergraduate degree in World Religions at the University of California, Berkley he went on to receive a Ph.D. in Sanskrit & Indian Studies at Harvard University.
