Natural Ayurvedic cure for Low Back Pain, Sciatica & Slip Disc- Dr. Phanindra VV

More often people visit for Ayurvedic consultation with low back pain. Often they are not satisfied with modern medicine approach. Sometimes they have disc prolapse as the chief complaint or the pain may be radiating down to the legs known as sciatica. Ayurveda has definitely a wonderful remedy for this. Usually the low back area has to be strengthened in order to prevent further prolapse of the disc. The pain may not be only because of disc prolapse. It may also be due to the pressure on the nerve roots. Ayurveda employs treatment modalities like kati basti where a ring is placed over the ow back area and a warm medicated oil is kept in the area for minimum duration of 40 minutes. It is followed by a local hot fermentation called as patrapindaswedha or shashtikashalisweda based upon the patients requirement, this reduces the pressure over the nerve root. One of the net modalities is one of the panchkarma modalities called as basti karma. The duration varies from 8 days to 16 days to 30 days. Where in on alternate days mediated enemas are administered using oils or ghee and the second day being the enema with Kashaya with oil and ghee. This procedure is continued for minimum number of 8 number of bastis or 8 days to 30 days. The local region known as basti is the local seat of the vata is controlled low back pain or sciatica or IVDP or disc prolapse is considered as a disorder of vata. Hence these modalities of kati basti and basti karma prove a big relief for the patients.
