Gian Carlo Menotti: For the Death of Orpheus (1990)

Although the Italian-American composer and librettist, Gian Carlo Menotti (1911-2007) is probably best remembered today for his many operas, he also composed a substantial body of orchestral, choral and chamber works. His Cantata for tenor, chorus and orchestra, For the Death of Orpheus was written on commission from the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, whose music director at the time was the well-known choral conductor Robert Shaw.
