Piezo Ignition: Optical Modification
I modified this piezo ignitor which pulses a small arc at the output. It also shocks the user if handled improperly.
The upgrade is a fitted and reflective magnifier, which magnifies the light. This optic magnifier material consists of thermo-formed solid state polymer quartz, which also diffracts the pulsed light.
It's consistent of a spring-loaded hammer, which, when the button is pressed, hits a crystal of PZT and ignites the gas inside. The forceful button sends electrons across the wires as a result of being electrically charged at a relatively high voltage and subsequent electrical discharge and deformation.
A small plasma arc is made as a result of electrons firing from the mechanism and is magnified at the output. Optionally, I can use acrylic aerogel to isolate the risk of electrical shock .
