San Cristobal de La Laguna - UNESCO World Heritage Site
The UNESCO World Heritage site of San Cristobal de La Laguna (or La Laguna for short), is a Spanish colonial city and the former capital of Tenerife and the Canary Islands. It was founded by the Spanish after their conquest of the islands in the late 15th century, and as the capital city of the colony it became hugely important to the development of cities across the New World. Even today, towns in southern and central America such has Havana, Cartagena, San Juan de Puerto Rico, and Lima, all show the influence of the town planning concepts developed right here. Fascinating!
