Black Brown Yellow White Episode 5 Alana Lentin

Black Brown Yellow White is an interview series exploring the nuanced experiences of people from around the globe addressing racism, empowerment, discrimination, and the rich tapestry of the African and Asian diaspora. Inspired by South African anthropologist Mongameli Mabona and emphasizing the transformative power of dialogue, the series provides a platform for marginal voices and those that challenge the ghosts as well as the living legacy of colonialism. Through interviews with activists, artists, and writers, it celebrates cultural diversity, challenges perceptions, and deepens understanding of identity, culture, and philosophy. THE FIFTH INSTALLMENT TAKES US INTO CHOPPY EPISTEMIC WATERS! Alena Lentin has authored several impactful works, including "Why Race Still Matters," arguing that race remains a vital issue in today's society. Another important work is "The Crises of Multiculturalism: Racism in a Neoliberal Age," co-authored with Gavan Titley, which explores the challenges of multicultural policies and their effects on racial dynamics. In this episode Lentin speaks powerfully about her sources of inspiration, the contemporary situation in so-called Australia as well as the complex and brutal history of racism/racialism. AT EVERY TURN LENTIN'S THOUGHTFUL WORDS CHALLENGE US TO RECONSIDER THE MAP AND TERRITORY OF OUR IDEAS ON RACE, AGENCY, AND RESISTANCE.
