Excel - VLOOKUP to 3 Sheets - Episode 1861

Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Latasha asks how to VLOOKUP to three worksheets. Welcome back to another episode of the MrExcel podcast. In today's episode, we will be tackling a question sent in by Latasha about using VLOOKUP to retrieve data from three different sheets in Excel. This can be a tricky task, but fear not, as I have a solution that will make it a breeze. Latasha has a list of product IDs and needs to retrieve the corresponding country code for each product. The majority of the products are listed on the main sheet, but some are on a backup sheet and a few are on a rarely used sheet. So how do we use VLOOKUP to retrieve data from all three sheets? I challenge you to share your solution in the YouTube comments, but for now, let me show you my approach. First, we will use a simple VLOOKUP formula to retrieve data from the main sheet. This will work for 80% of the products, but for the remaining 20%, we will need to use a backup VLOOKUP formula to retrieve data from the backup sheet. To make this process smoother, we will wrap the first VLOOKUP formula in an IFERROR function. This will allow us to catch any errors and move on to the backup VLOOKUP formula. For those using Excel 2013, you can use the IFNA function instead of IFERROR. But what about the few products that are on the rarely used sheet? Don't worry, we have a solution for that too. We will add another IFERROR function before the backup VLOOKUP formula, which will catch any errors and move on to the rarely used sheet. This way, we can ensure that we retrieve data from one of the three sheets for all products. It's important to note that the order of the sheets in the formula matters. The sheet with the most products should be the first VLOOKUP, followed by the backup sheet, and then the rarely used sheet. This way, we can minimize the number of times the formula needs to move on to the next sheet. I hope this solution helps you with your VLOOKUP needs. But as always, I am open to hearing your suggestions and improvements in the YouTube comments. Thank you to Latasha for sending in this question, and thank you for tuning in to another episode of the MrExcel podcast. See you next time for more Excel tips and tricks.
