08.Subflooring and then some | Van Build + Van Life

Happy Holidays to our friends and family all over this beautiful globe! And yes, yes we know. We've been delinquent in getting updates out to everyone. Such is life sometimes. Alas we are back with a brief, but exciting update. Ace gets one "step" closer as we get some help and support from some wonderful friends, and we finally take Ace on a legitimate camping trip... SPOILER ALERT: We take Savanna too! We used a roll of cork matting to provide a thin layer of insulation under our plywood subfloor as well as to provide a little extra sound deadening. The main reason for this decision was to save as much headroom as possible to minimize self-induced concussions for Charlie, but also to minimize our environmental impact. It's a truly difficult thing to do when building, well, anything these days, but it's not impossible. Sometimes it takes a bit more time and or money, but for us the sacrifices are worth it. Especially when some aspects of this build will require the use of products that are less environmentally friendly and we just can't avoid their use.
