London Zoo’s lioness gets behind the Lionesses

ZSL London Zoo’s Asiatic lions have shown their support for England’s Lionesses ahead of their first match in UEFA Women's EURO tournament 2022 tomorrow (Wednesday 6 July). Cheering on the team, London’s lioness Arya and her mate Bhanu, marked the start of the women’s tournament and England’s first match with specially giant footballs, designed for strong, fast and agile animals to play with. The metre-wide boomer balls – super-tough balls made to withstand the force of a lion’s game – were painted to look like footballs, and scented with the pride’s favourite aromatic herbs and spices, after being gifted by ZSL’s supporters Liontrust. With Liontrust’s support, ZSL aims to tackle the challenges these big cats face. Corporate partners such as Liontrust enable ZSL to care for Asiatic lions like Arya and Bhanu, and support partners in India to safeguard these big cats in their last remaining wild habitat, the Gir Forest. In return ZSL’s corporate partners display their commitment to sustainability, conservation and education: https://www.zsl.org/corporate-partnerships
