Camellia Flowers: Wild Card Distillation

I read extensively over the last year about the beautiful camellia flower with specific interesst in the Japonica varietal. I wanted to understand its potential uses but also if a flower with little floral headspace had a place in my still. It has a place with both the delicate floral scent revealed in the hydrosol as much as the leftover water in the bottom of the still, which was the soft pink color of spring. It provided gentle bubbles in the bath and skin softening experienced unmatched by Calgon. I’m glad I took a chance on a flower that surprised me a lot. I’ll be back gathering this weekend to get in a few more distillations and a few more bubble baths.
