Officials with the Service Employees International Union say a report from Economic Policy Institute shows that big corporations manage to avoid paying taxes in many states, Illinois included. SEIU Health Executive Vice President Erica Bland-Durosinmi led a demonstration outside the office of Amazon to make a point. “They should pay what they owe, so they can fund public services that working families need. Services like public child care, so that Illinois working parents – like those who make Amazon so profitable – can afford to have child care and pay their bills.” Child care worker Debra Murphy told the crowd child care is too expensive for many working families and many others live in child care deserts where service is not available.
