The Mystical Path to Our Rebirth [DARK NIGHT OF THE SOUL] The dark night of the soul can be described as obscuration of the true self. This obscuration can be made up of so many things such as previous beliefs that a person once had about themselves or the world at large that is thrown into question. When the dark night of the soul happens, the result is always a rebirth of the new self and destruction of the old self. According to Hazrat Inayat Khan, - “There can be no rebirth without a dark night of the soul, a total annihilation of all that you believed in and thought that you were.” As a person goes through different stages of life, different things influence them, especially from their surroundings. For example, at birth, the child learns from their parents, and as they grow, they begin to learn from school and other institutions of learning. All this while, the person is inculcated with what their teachers believe and what they find acceptable and unacceptable. You do not have the right to do whatever you like or want because society has already laid steps you should follow to be accepted into society.
