WOMAN " - 1971 Riders on the Storm is the thirteenth single from The Doors' discography and the second single from the album L.A. Woman. The song was born one day in the recording studio, when Jim Morrison improvised by singing the lyrics of an old song called Ghost Riders in the Sky, which he quickly changed to Riders on the Storm. In the song's introduction, during the mixing stage the Doors included a rain effect with thunderstorms, which made it full of atmosphere. The 45 reached 14th place on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States, and 22nd in Great Breanne lyrics featuring the sinister figure of the murderous hitchhiker, already present in some of Morrison's poems and the protagonist of his film project HWY, an amateur film he wrote, directed and starred in. This character was inspired by the figure of Billy Cook, a serial killer who killed six people in 1950, including the entire Mosser family (father, mother and their three children), and also attacked others, hitching rides across the United States before being caught and executed in 1952.The song was recorded at the Doors Workshop studio in December 1970 with the assistance of Bruce Botnick, the band's long-time sound engineer, who co-produced the recording sessions for the album with the Doors. Jim Morrison recorded the main vocal track and then overdubbed himself while whispering the lyrics to create an echo effect. According to Manzarek it was the last song recorded by the Doors in the classic line-up with Morrison, and also the last song recorded by Morrison to be released. The single (Side B: The Changeling) was released in 1971, shortly before Morrison's death, entering the Hot 100 chart on 3 July 1971, the date of his death.
