Outstanding Dining Shopping in Wakefield Quebec - Beautiful Covered Bridge, Stunning Fall colours

Welcome to my Channel -- Walking Attractions https://www.youtube.com/c/WalkingAttractions Recently, I had the pleasure of taking a trip to Wakefield, Quebec, just 30 minutes north of Ottawa. I was blown away by the warm welcome that the community provided and the many amenities and points of interest that the area has to offer. From the beautiful covered bridge to the stunning fall colors, to the shopping and dining options available, Wakefield truly has something for everyone. One of the most popular landmarks in Wakefield is the Gendron Covered Bridge that spans across the Gatineau River. The bridge, built in 1915, unfortunately burned down in 1984. However, thanks to the hard work of a committee of volunteers, the bridge was rebuilt and inaugurated in 1998. While the restored bridge is only available for pedestrians and cyclists, it is a sight to behold and a great spot for a photo-op. Across the street from the covered bridge, I discovered Hendrick Park and the Fairbairn House Heritage Center. The House, dating back to 1860, is one of the oldest buildings in Wakefield and was moved to its current location in 2000. Hendrick Park, on the other hand, is a great spot for a relaxing hike and provides stunning views of waterfalls. It's a great place to visit if you're interested in exploring the history of Wakefield. As I walked through Wakefield, I stumbled upon the old train tracks that once allowed visitors to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Gatineau by taking a steam train trip to Wakefield. While the service is no longer available due to landslides and high maintenance costs, the train tracks, locomotive turntable, and train station remain as a reminder of what was once an active area with passengers. Walking on these tracks was a relaxing and informative experience that allowed me to learn more about the history of the area. Finally, no trip to Wakefield would be complete without indulging in the many shopping and dining options available. The community boasts many cafés, pubs, galleries, and boutiques that offer a range of products and services. Whether you're in the mood for a gourmet meal or a quick bite, Wakefield has plenty of options to satisfy your cravings. Overall, my trip to Wakefield was an unforgettable experience that provided me with a glimpse into the area's rich history and culture. The covered bridge, Hendrick Park, and the old train tracks were just a few of the many highlights of my trip, and I can't wait to go back and explore even more of what Wakefield has to offer.
