How to create a .gitignore file in GitLab

GitHub allows the addition of a .gitignore file right when a new project is created. That option isn't available in GitLab. But GitLab does allow you to add a gitignore file at any point in time through the file template generator option. In this git ignore in GitLab example, I show you how to add the all important .gitignore file to existing GitLab repositories and to new GitLab projects as well. Every GitLab repo needs a .gitignore file.
