Very often I am accused of "not doing research" or just making stuff up as I go along without any considerations to history, or in some cases even being told that I have misidentified the person entirely! It's not always easy to get the right person, but lack of research and study has never been a problem, and by the results of those two I can CREATE the right person even if one does not exist. That is the magic of computers and art. What wasn't mentioned in the narrative (I couldn't think of everything on the spot) was that in addition to considering the physical description of a subject from historical records, other appearance cues can be deduced from geography (race), the family tree (known images of other relatives or descendants), lifestyle (indoor, outdoor), personality, health, and so on. That research also is included in my restorations whenever possible. Just as a footnote, I can never stress enough that when it comes to SKIN color, it's all in the guesswork, because skin (so far) is the ONE attribute that is so individual that it can never be guessed accurately, even with DNA. Skin can change color in the same individual due to environment, habits, diet, illness, or age. Gene mutations within a race can create completely unexpected skin tones (albinos, for a start). Mixed ancestry creates its own skin tones, as well. So give up the skin color debate, folks, you'll never win without a photograph. Focus on the facial structure instead. *I don't do too many narrative videos since I get complaints about my voice. That's mainly the reason why most of my work is behind the camera! Another reason for that is the fact that I think in images more than words, anyway, and prefer not to talk while I'm working.
