AMERICA: A POEM

A Poem by Michael Pendragon, celebrating the inauguration of President Donald Trump. Michael Pendragon (born October 23, 1963) is an American writer, poet, editor, and publisher. He was born in the Pine Barrens of southern New Jersey (birthplace of the legendary Jersey Devil). He is best known for having published a pair of literary magazines: Penny Dreadful and Songs of Innocence & Experience (1996-2005). His poetry is often rhymed/metered and employs such devices as internal rhyme, alliteration and onomatopoeia. Death, loss, disillusionment, and decay are the primary themes of his earlier work, while his later work mixes these themes with those of love, nature, and the art of poetry itself. He considers himself to be a Romantic poet in the Byronic tradition, focusing on the individual human spirit and its place in a godless universe. His poetry videos combine recitations of his verse, classical and popular music, photography, painting and film (the latter a life-long love, which he studied at Jersey City State College). He is strongly influenced by Edgar A. Poe [22] in both his poetry and prose, and he has sometimes been compared to him ("...heralded as the. Edgar A. His published works include: “Much of Madness” - a novel about a small-scale apocalypse that took place shortly before the first millennium; “Into the Night” - collected poetic works (1980-2010); “Crossed Swords” – collected poetic works (2012-2017); “Night Magick” - a tragi-comic play written in both blank and rhymed verse; and five short story collections, “Nightscapes,” “Nocturne,” Night Things,” “The Dead,” and “Beyond the Veil.” His writings have appeared in “The Romantics Quarterly,” “The Dream Zone,” “Masque Noir,” “Morbid Curiosity,” “Ocular,” “Scarlet Literary Magazine,” “Enigmatic Tales;” were recently featured in “The Horror Zine Magazine,” “Sanitarium,” and “Dark Gothic Resurrected,” “Disturbed Digest,” “Danse Macabre,” and “Infernal Ink.”
